Crestor Side Effects: Patients Risk Lives for Health

Crestor lawsuits have been cropping up across the country ever since reports have begun surfacing about the side effects that have been linked to the statin drug. Statin drugs, which include the popular Lipitor and Crestor, have proven effective in fighting cholesterol and associated medical problems. Heart disease and strokes can be attributed in some cases to high cholesterol, and studies have shown statin drugs to be extremely effective in warding off heart problems after an initial stroke in certain patients, however there is potential for harmful Crestor side effects. It has also been proven effective in patients with diabetes or metabolic syndrome, conditions which under normal circumstances exacerbate the risk of heart problems.

This is good news for many patients with high cholesterol levels. However, it does not come without a price. Patients who have taken Crestor have reported serious side effects that have been linked to the drug, some of which can prove debilitating or even fatal. Crestor muscle pain and weakness is the most common side effect, and while this can seem trivial to some people, constant muscle pain and muscle weakness can be extremely detrimental. In addition, muscle pain and weakness – a condition formally known as myopathy – can lead to a more severe condition, called rhabdomyolysis, which is associated with liver failure, kidney failure, and sometimes death. Other side effects that have been linked to statin drugs include rashes, neurological disorders, digestive problems, and liver damage.
Because of the recent upsurge of patients without actual evidence of heart disease – and only a somewhat increased risk as compared to the general population – being prescribed statin drugs by their doctors, some people may be put at a somewhat unnecessary risk of experiencing statin side effects. In cases where the drug is not completely necessary to improve the health of a patient, physicians may want to consider holding off on prescribing drugs like Crestor in order to stave off the possibility of the patient experiencing Crestor side effects.
Although some patients are helped considerably by Crestor and other statin drugs, for other patients it is simply not worth the risk – and for this reason, many patients who have experienced Crestor side effects are choosing to contact a personal injury lawyer and take the first steps towards filing a Crestor lawsuit.
